Following service overseas in the United States Navy, Bob Dunlap returned home to Batesville, Mississippi to enter business. Starting modestly in a mule barn in the 1950's with a handful of men, Bob built a small tire business into a thriving wholesale and retail operation thatnow employs over 2,000 workers with annual revenues exceeding $700 million.
A passionate love of trees, hunting, and wildlife led to a lifetime devotion to conservation. Most notable are his efforts to restore Caulk Island on the Mississippi River to the pristine condition Hernando De Sotofound 400 years ago when he first set eyes on the Mississippi. Bob and his seasoned team of foresters and workers have planted well over 1.2 million hardwood trees on the 12,000 acre island preserve. He initiated similar efforts on a 3,500 acres preserve he owns in Lafayette County, Mississippi.
Paired with his devotion to conservation is an equally passionate interest in ensuring a path to higher education for self motivated students who lack the financial ability to attend college. The University of Mississippi, Mississippi State, Millsaps College, and Northwest Community College have all been recipients of his keen interest in education and the well-being of young people.
